With spring and summer starting to come into view, some cities are looking to take advantage of the warmer weather and the fall foliage, while others are more concerned about the risks associated with the long-term effects of climate change.
In the coming months, the United States will be taking part in the Global Warming Solutions Initiative, a program aimed at developing strategies for combating global warming.
According to the White House, this initiative is part of a broader effort to “rebalance global energy supplies to reduce the risk of runaway climate change, address the growing impacts of extreme weather events and help people and businesses adapt to the impacts of climate changes.”
The program aims to provide “a comprehensive, sustainable, and resilient energy portfolio to meet the needs of the 21st century and ensure economic prosperity, stability and security.”
While many of the cities participating in the initiative have been taking steps to protect against climate change and protect the environment, others have gone further and proposed a plan that would take advantage by encouraging the construction of “terraced gardens,” which would be planted to provide shade and shade cover, as well as to provide the environment with additional nutrients.
The New York Times reports that the city’s plan for a “terra-farming” initiative would see a “plantation of hundreds of thousands of trees” along streets, “providing shade, providing a shelter from the elements and providing protection from winter storms.”
While some cities may see the idea of a “green” garden as a bit of a novelty, others are taking a more proactive approach to protect their environment.
The Chicago Tribune reports that a “plans to plant trees on the city streets” are “an important step to helping Chicago maintain its position as a global leader in the green technology movement.”
In a country with a population of more than 4.7 billion, the U.S. is one of the biggest polluters in the world.
According the U, there are nearly 1.2 billion tons of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and nearly half of the carbon dioxide emitted comes from transportation and heating.
As the climate continues to change, it will be up to cities and communities to protect themselves from the harmful effects of global warming, and it’s clear that there’s a need to help these communities grow their own plants.
